Shaoxing has rich cultural heritage and the delicate beauty of the Jiangnan water town. Represented by the Wupeng boat, black felt hat and dried pickled mustard, the custom of Shaoxing presents unique and attractive local characteristics. Shaoxing is the birthplace of many celebrities throughout history, including the great calligrapher Wang Xizhi, the great litterateur Luxun, the great leader of China Zhou Enlai and so on. It is a place that is well worth visiting.

Lu Xun’s hometown

It is one of the most popular sites in Shaoxing. It is a historical block full of Jiangnan flavor, allowing you to feel the real living condition of Lu Xun at that time. The narrow stone road lined with white walls and black tiles, the Baicao Garden, the three-flavor Study, the local monastery and the river flowing in front of the door of Lu Xun’s former residence bring people back to the scene what Lu Xun described in his novel. The well-protected and restored Lu Xun's hometown has become the treasure of the city.

Shenyuan Garden

Located in the urban area in Shaoxing, Zhejiang, Shen Garden is the only Song-style garden in Shaoxing that is still preserved today. It has a history of more than 800 years and is the National 5A scenic spot. Inside the garden are pavilions, halls, bridges, rivers and green trees. It is said that Shen Garden in the past is several times larger than it is today. The highlight in the garden is the poem “Phoenix hairpin” by Lu You, a distinguished poet in Song dynasty, in memory of the encounter with his lover, Tang Wan.


Orchid Pavilion

It is one of China’s four most famous pavilions. Historically, it has undergone several transitions and now is re-established according to the former site of the Orchid Pavilion in the Ming dynasty. It basically maintains the garden architectural style of the Ming and Qing dynasty, greatly combining the gorgeous landscape, unique calligraphic reputation, and abundant historical cultures. It is famous for “quiet scenery, elegant essays, and wonderful calligraphy”.
