At the 2018 Pingyao International Photography Festival this September in Jinan of Shandong Province, German photographer Götz Diergarten shares methodological parallels with the Becher's conceptually-oriented black and white photographs, including the use of typology as a means to structure his photographic series. However, his images of vernacular architecture emphasise color and surface, building a relationship between photography, colour field and constructivist painting.
Götz Diergarten opens our eyes to the beauty of reality, and gives us the opportunity to see things we have seen a thousand times from a new and different perspective. The painterly and abstract can reside in even the seemingly simple or banal.

Diergarten himself once said that he was concerned with "a certain school of seeing, with slowing down and becoming attuned to perception through the things that always surround us."
