Paddy Drying: Golden Harvest in Bangladesh

Paddy drying zone is a very well known area for paddy processing in Bangladesh.

The staple food of Bangladesh is rice. This rice comes in shape through some processing of paddy. After harvesting the paddy from the field it comes to the paddy drying zone for drying. Lots of workers both male and female work for their livelihood. The children of the workers grow up playing in this area.

Because of the low payment of the worker their children do not get enough facilities for their living. Paddy drying is often a problem in Bangladesh due to rain and cloudy weather in summer, and fog and short day in winter. To protect paddy from this bad weather the round shaped covers are used. After completing drying it is sent to another area for further processing.

Being a Bangladeshi and the main food of the country is rice it is very natural of having some interest of the system of paddy processing and the life style of the people who work in this zone. Photographer Anindita Roy's main aim of this project is to discover the struggling life of the workers who work so hard but get a very low payment. This is clearly contrasting to the labor law.
