Mocăniţa: Black & White Images Showing Borderline Steam Train

Running from Viseu de Sus, through Valea Vaserului, to the Carpathians, to the village of Comanu, near the border with Ukraine, the narrow-gauge forest railway of the Maramureş district is still used today to bring the logs downstream trees cut in the mountains on the border with Ukraine.

The narrow-gauge railway crosses part of the Apuseni Mountains between the cities of Turda and Abrud. Built between 1910 and 1912, the railway is called Mocăniţa due to the fact that the inhabitants of the area were also known as "mocani".

Today it is also used for tourism with a journey that begins in the morning at dawn and ends in the late afternoon.
