2016 Pingyao International Photography Festival Notice

Time: Sept. 19-25, 2016

Place: Pingyao, Shanxi, China

Deadline: July 20, 2016

Theme: Mind of the World, Sentiment for the Homeland

“Mind of the World, Sentiment for the Homeland” develops the theme of 2015 PIP Festival “Home·Dream”, and calls for universal understanding, emotion, and concern to the world, the nature, and humanity , transcending nations, cultures, and time.

Cameras are everywhere -- camera men are exploring the world and the nature through their lens. They collect information, register the society, insight human spirits and review the secrets of all forms of lives. To them, collecting photos is collecting the world.

China Pingyao International Photography Festival aims at presenting an outlook of the contemporary photography world through the excellent works which focus on telling stories of the world and human beings as a whole. We hope to demonstrate the fruits of this specific contemporary cultural form, and to promote dialogues and communications among the international photography community.

Academic theme: From Viewing to Presenting

From Viewing to Presenting furthers the theme of “Photography realm” in the academic section of 2014 PIP festival. Communication between a photographer and a subject happens within a moment, which becomes decisive. In the meantime, this decisive moment is a result of long-term accumulation which include aesthetic direction, perfect judgment, and even an “on-the-spot” “god’s will”. What a photographer confront first is his intuitive judgment rather than any philosophic theories, even though philosophy can be used as a

summarizing and promoting tool at the end. The two elements complement each other. From Viewing to Presenting intends to explore photography activity from the other side of the camera, and to discuss creations from a different perspective, so as to help clarify a photographer’s self-cognition in his creation.
