Enthusiastic Athletes Competing in Snowy Towns: Old Photos of Winter Olympics in the Last Century

As the 2018 Winter Games will kick off tonight in Pyeongchang, South Korea, the highly anticipated Winter Games is around the corner. People from all around the world will look on as more than 2,000 athletes from 92 countries competing for their national pride.

According to Travel+Leisure's report, there are six new countries making their debut in this year's Winter Olympics, and they are Ecuador, Eritrea, Kosovo, Malaysia, Nigeria and Singapore. In addition to base on the official's news, the International Olympic Committee added four new events this year, including curling mixed doubles, speed skating mass start, alpine skiing team event, and snowboarding big air.

The Winter Olympic Games has faced new challenges and set new records every year. However, we couldn’t forget memorable moment and historical areas in previous games over the last few decades. Before those 2,000 athletes marching forward at Pyeongchang Games, here are twenties iconic images to refresh our memories with athletes’ powerful sporting spirits and wonderment on winter sports.
