Call for Contributions to the 16th China International Photographic Art Exhibition

The China International Photographic Art Exhibition, organized by the China Photographers Association, is an international photo show that has the longest history and largest scale in China. Since 1981 it has been successfully held for thirteen times and received in the aggregate nearly 430,000 entries sent by nearly 70,000 artists from more than 100 countries and regions. It has an extensive influence upon the international photographic circle.

In April 2016, the China 16th International Photographic Art Exhibition will be held in Zhengzhou, Henan Province. The mission of the exhibition is to comprehensively exhibit the artistic achievements of photography in the world in recent years, display photographers’ practice and explorative achievements in diverse categories of photography and promote worldwide communication and development in the field of photography.

We sincerely invite photographic groups and photographers from all over the world, either professionals or amateurs, to join in and send their works to us.

Rules

1. Please go to www.cpanet.org.cn and click “China 16th International Photographic Art Exhibition”. Entrants need to sign up first, fill in the required information and then upload their works. Only digital works are acceptable. The digital works shall be in JPEG format and the longest side shall be no more than 1,024 pixels.

2. Categories:

a. Highlights for Children. Only documentary works are expected.

b. Documentary

c. Fine Art

d. Commercial

Each participant is able to choose one of the categories or more, but the same entry shall not be accepted under two or more categories. Both singles and series are welcome. Either a single or a series is deemed as one “entry”. A series shall consist of 4-12 images.

3. Fees: The number of entries is not limited. Free for the first 4 entries, 10 RMB for each additional entry. All the entry fees charged will be used for supplementing activities of the exhibition.

4. Photos that have won prizes in or have been accepted in previous international photographic art exhibitions and national photographic art exhibitions organized by China Photographers Association must not be submitted.

5. Submitted photo(s) must be a work of original material created and/or taken solely by you, must not contain any materials owned or controlled by a third party for which you have not obtained a license, must not infringe the copyright, portraiture right, reputation right, rights of privacy/publicity or any other rights of any person or entity.

6. In the first two categories (“Highlights for Children” and documentary), basic technical editing of the photo(s) such as tuning is acceptable, provided any such editing does not affect the authenticity and/or genuineness of the photo(s). Photos with additions or deletions of elements will be disqualified. Colored photos can be converted to black and white (or monochrome) completely, not partially. Each of the photos shall have a brief description of no more than 100 words, including time, place and event.

7. Using all or part of the images obtained from other author’s works through any technical methods is strictly prohibited. All the responsibilities should be on the entrant in case any dispute occur as a result of violation of the foregoing.

8. Photos that portray or otherwise include inappropriate and/or offensive contents (including but not limited to those that may severely mislead the public cognition and those deceptive or contrary to laws, cultural and/or public morals, traditions and practices) are strictly prohibited and will be immediately discarded.

9. Solemnly declared: The organizer reserves the right to disqualify the entrant(s) as a result of copyright problems and other serious offenses. Awarded entrants will be deprived of their medals, cash rewards, certificates and ribbons, as well as criticized in a circulated notice. If the circumstances are especially serious, the entrant(s) shall be banned from all future exhibitions and competitions organized by CPA for two years and more.

10. Special Note: The finalists of the first two categories (“Highlights for Children” and documentary) shall submit the original files (original digital files or negatives) for expert confirmation and exhibition photo production. The negatives will be returned. The original images should be files taken with cameras, mobile phones, tablet devices or other photographic equipment with no software processing. Besides, they shall include complete original data such as camera information, shooting time and other relevant information. Finalists who fail in providing original files within granted time will be deemed as waiving all rights.

11. According to the requirements of FIPA, FIAP reserves the right to review the submitted works of all entrants so as to decide whether they may have broken relevant regulations. All liabilities shall be assumed by the entrant if he or she refuses to have the entries reviewed, submit the original files or provide sufficient materials.

CPA medals and FIAP medals will be awarded to winners of this contest.

C. Commercial

For the above three categories, certificates shall be granted to 500 finalists (including winners).

3. Recommendation Award: The recommender will be awarded with 10,000 RMB (before tax) and a certificate if the entry he or she recommends wins the gold award.

4. Awards for Outstanding Organizer: about 10

Groups and individuals who make remarkable contributions to this exhibition shall be granted with the Awards for Outstanding Organizer of the China 16th International Photographic Art Exhibition.

The committee reserves the right to make proper adjustment to the above awards. Vacancies resulting from any disqualification of winners and finalists due to violation of the rules will not be filled.

Definitions

1.“Highlights for Children”

This category accepts documentary works taken after the year 2000, which authentically, comprehensively and objectively reflect children’s conditions and problems they face across the globe so as to raise concern for children’s growth among the public, governments and media.

2. Documentary

This category accepts works that objectively record social life, natural and ecological environment, as well as folk customs. News photography, press photography, social documentary photography and natural documentary photography, etc. are all welcomed.

3. Fine Art

This category accepts works that express aesthetic interest and depicts the inner world. Photos may depict cultural landscape, folk customs, portrait, still life, as well as fauna and flora. Creative, conceptual and experimental images are all acceptable. No limit is set on the techniques.

4. Commercial

Commercial works are works aiming at promoting goods, service concepts and consumption patterns, which include but not limited to photos created for commercial advertisements, studio photography, fashion photography and urban architecture photography. No limit is set on the techniques.

Judging

The panel, made up of famous Chinese and oversea photographers will examine if each entry complies with the mentioned rules in this notice. The judging process will conform to the principles of openness, fairness and impartiality.

Related Matters

1. Winning images and the ultimate entries of this exhibition are eligible to apply for membership of CPA.

2. The results will be announced on www.cpanet.org.cn for 7-day publicity in January, 2016, while a mailbox is set for real-name supervision. The final results will be publicized on the different divisions of CPANET.

3. Invitation letters to the opening ceremony of the exhibition in April of 2016 will be offered to the winners of the Golden Awards (including their recommenders) and Awards for Outstanding Organization by the Organizing Committee. Apart from that, a one-week photo tour in Zhengzhou, Henan Province will be offered with accommodation and traffic fees covered. The expenses incurred by their round-trip travel between their residences and Zhengzhou should be borne on themselves.

4. Each of the participants will receive a digital catalog.

5. Upon entering the contest, you grant to CPANET the right and license to use, publish, reproduce, display, perform, distribute and promote your winning photo(s), in whole or in part, in any form, in all media forms between 2016-2017, anywhere in the world and for any purpose, including but not limited to: display at a potential exhibition of winners, publication of a book featuring select entries in the Competition, publication in CPANET materials and/or online highlighting entries or winners of the Competition, and promoting the work of CPANET generally without compensation.

6. Fees shall be collected from entrants or recommenders who submit over 4 entries according to the standards mentioned above.

7. By entering the contest, you are deemed as having agreed on all the rules. Any breach of the rules or delay in payment will lead to the disqualification of the entrant.

8. The Organizing Committee of the China 16th International Photographic Art Exhibition reserves the right of final interpretation on this notice and the exhibition.
